Charitable Relations
Highlights
A key measure of our success during the 2009 fiscal year was our ability to raise funds through successful community events. We increased the number of fundraisers and exceeded all projections, raising more than $30,000.00. The main conduits of our fundraising efforts included our book signing event with author Gwen Ifil; Barnes and Noble book fair; Little Miss AKA Youth Enrichment Program; golf tournament; and our bowling extravaganza, "striking out breast cancer." As a concrete expression of our impact, we logged more than 400 community service hours and awarded over $10,000.00 in scholarships.
We are most proud of the continued outreach efforts of ECF through the Kozy Kerchief program. We created and donated more than 100 Kozy Kerchiefs to women in our community that were thriving despite a cancer diagnosis. This year we partnered with girls from the Little Miss AKA Youth Enrichment Program to make kerchiefs for children with cancer.
Supporting persons with cancer as they journey with this disease is important to us, but it also underscores the need for continued vigilance as we educate the community and improve their health and wellbeing. In this regard our work to provide funding for an annual Domestic Violence Conference addressed aspects of prevention and awareness.
