Charitable Causes

The Educational and Charitable Foundation of LKO is a public non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing service to the Northern Virginia Community.

This page lists some of the educational activities and charitable causes that ECF supports. We also include a list of charitable causes to which ECF contributes annually.

  • Donations to Historically Black Colleges in VA
  • Northern Virginia Chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s Black Scholars Awards Program

    • Supports children with:
      • Social skills
      • Career identification and planning
      • Writing skills, creativity, introduction to the arts.
  • Island Walk (Monthly)
    • Mentoring of middle school children
      • Homework assistance
      • Tutoring students in mathematics and science.
  • Girl’s Probation house
    • Mentoring middle and senior high school students
      • Open discussion about future plans
      • Sharing past experiences
      • Health and drug discussions
  • Orphans Foundation of America
    • Support of Orphans in college
      • Packaging of care packages
      • Knitting scarfs for inclusion in care packages
      • Writing notes of encouragement for care packages
  • Mother’s Day Gift Baskets - May
    • Support of Single Mothers
      • Volunteers donate girly things for the baskets
      • Baskets are assembled by volunteers
      • Single mothers are identified for receipt of the baskets
  • Kozy Kerchief – September/October
    • Support of Breast Cancer Month
      • Volunteers come together to sew and package handmade kerchiefs
      • Our Kozy Kerchiefs (trademark pending) are distributed to women who are going through chemotherapy for breast cancer.
  • Thanksgiving Day Gift Baskets - November
    • Providing food to needy families
      • Volunteers donate non-perishable food items for the baskets
      • Baskets are assembled by volunteers
      • Needy families are identified with the help of Fairfax Family Services for receipt of the baskets
